MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team is geared up and set to travel East for a showdown with St. John's on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. Central time.

The squads will tip live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Jonathan Yardley and Mike Watts calling the action from Carnesecca Arena.

MU got back in the win column on Wednesday with a 79-74 victory over Providence and improved to a 12-3 overall record and 3-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles are currently tied for second in the league standings with Creighton, which is their lone loss in conference action.

The Marquette University women's basketball team captured its fifth BIG EAST victory of the season, winning an exciting 67-64 victory over St. John's on Friday at the Al McGuire Center.

Sophomore Allazia Blockton leads Marquette with 17.1 points per game and ranks second in the BIG EAST, while classmate Erika Davenport is second with 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. She is one of just two league players, along with Butler's Tori Schickel to average a double-double, and ranks 20th in the NCAA in rebounding and is 27th in the nation with a 56.7 percent (89-157) field goal percentage.

Overall the Golden Eagles rank second in the BIG EAST with 77.5 points per game, which is 32nd overall in Division I, while the squad is also 29th dishing out 17.0 assists per night.

St. John's is coming off of a 62-41 win at Butler on Thursday and currently owns a 10-4 record with a 2-1 conference record. The Red Storm owns the BIG EAST's stingiest defense, allowing opponents to score just 51.1 points per game, which ranks fifth in the NCAA. Jade Walker is the leading scorer for St. John's with 12.9 points per contest, while she is also pulling down 5.1 rebounds, while Akina Wellere is also averaging double digits with 10.5 points.

Sunday is the 17th all-time meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Red Storm with MU owning a 9-7 record in the series. Last year, the two teams split the season series with each team winning on its home court.

Following this game, Marquette remains out east and will head to Seton Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. CT on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
