MU Bested by Villanova's Second-Half Run
The Marquette University women's basketball team was unable to withstand a late Villanova run that proved to be the deciding factor in the Golden Eagles' 75-59 loss Friday night at the Al McGuire Center.

MU (5-9, 0-3) opened the BIG EAST schedule against the league's top-three teams on the road and just missed picking up two victories on its opponents' courts. The Golden Eagles stormed back from a 14-point third quarter deficit at St. John's on Tuesday before falling to the Red Storm, 81-77 in overtime.

Freshman Allazia Blockton continues to guide the Golden Eagles and poured in a career-high-tying 25 points with a career-best 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals at St. John's for her sixth double-double of the season. Blockton is averaging a double-double in league play with a BIG EAST-best 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, which ranks third.

The Golden Eagles are second overall in the BIG EAST averaging 76.2 points per game with three players ranking in the top-30 in scoring. Freshman Natisha Hiedeman has increased her scoring average to 13.9 points per game and has a quick hand with 2.1 steals per game.

Villanova is playing its 11th road game this season and enters Friday with an 8-6 overall record and 2-2 BIG EAST mark after falling, 65-62 to Creighton on Tuesday. The Wildcats are led by Caroline Coyer with 14.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds. Her 5.3 assists per game ranks third in the BIG EAST. Megan Quinn leads VU on the glass with 6.4 boards per night.

Following this game, Marquette will host Georgetown on Sunday, Jan. 10 at Noon CT live on FS2 with Patrick Reed and Trish Babcock-McGraw calling the action.
