MILWAUKE--The Marquette women's basketball returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Xavier, in its first battle with the Musketeers as a new BIG EAST member. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

After its mid-week game against Seton Hall was postponed due to weather, MU has had one week off and is looking forward to resuming play. The Golden Eagles are 11-3 overall and have opened league play 2-1, with all games decided by just two points.

Women's Basketball Wins U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam; Defeats Xavier, 73-53
While playing all 10 active players, the Marquette women's basketball team was able to win its third straight game in three days, routing Xavier, 73-53, in the championship of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. Senior Christina Quaye and sophomore Krystal Ellis were selected to the Paradise Jam's all-tournament team. Quaye was named tournament MVP.

Marquette is led by senior duo Katherine Plouffe and Katie Young with 19.1 and 13.6 points, respectively. Plouffe is the BIG EAST's second leading scorer and rebounder with 11.0 boards per game, while Young is pulling down 9.1 rebounds each contest and ranks fourth in the league. Junior Arlesia Morse is 24th among conference players in scoring with 10.9 points per game.

Plouffe was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading MU in a 1-1 week, including a career-best 33 points and 13 boards in an overtime win at Georgetown. It was her second player of the week honor this season.

Xavier is fresh off an 85-68 home victory over Georgetown on Wednesday evening. The Musketeers are 7-8 overall and also 2-1 in league action. Xavier is led by Shatyra Hawkes with 14.6 points per game, which ranks her 12th in the conference in scoring, while Ashley Wanninger and Jenna Crittendon are averaging 12.1 and 11.2 points, respectively. Crittendon leads the Musketeers on the glass with 7.1 rebounds.

This is the 10th meeting between Marquette and Xavier and the first since 2007. The Golden Eagles own a narrow 5-4 advantage in the all-time series, including a victory on Nov. 25, 2007 on a neutral court.
