NEW YORK – Marquette University women’s basketball freshman Allazia Blockton has been selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season and earns her seventh consecutive weekly award, the league office announced on Monday.

The BIG EAST’s No. 2 scorer remained consistent by scoring 25 points at St. John’s, 21 versus Villanova and 25 against Georgetown on Sunday in the Golden Eagles’ first league win of the year. In three games last week Blockton nearly averaged a double-double with 23.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Through 16 games this season Blockton is averaging 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds to rank second in the league, while her six double-doubles are tied for most among all league players. She is the only player to rank in the top five in both scoring and rebounds.

MU went 1-2 last week, earning its first league victory in an 87-72 decision against Georgetown on Sunday. The Golden Eagles will head back on the road this week for contests at Xavier on Friday, Jan. 15 and Butler on Sunday, Jan. 17.
