Marquette Heads to Xavier on Friday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team is back in action with a pair of BIG EAST games this weekend as the squad heads to Xavier on Friday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. Central time. The BIG EAST Digital Network will carry the game live with Mike Schmaltz and Rich Hoyt calling the action from the Cintas Center.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Allazia Blockton leads Marquette with 18.9 points per game, which is second overall in the league and is also MU;s leader on the glass, pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game, which is fourth overall in the conference tally. She is the only player to be in the BIG EAST's top-five in both scoring and rebounds. Blockton is also fifth in scoring among all freshmen in the NCAA.
As a team, Marquette (6-10) is second in the conference averaging 76.8 points per game. The Golden Eagles earned their first BIG EAST victory of the season last weekend with an 87-72 decision after charging back from 18-point deficit. Three of MU's four conference losses have come by just a seven point margin.
Xavier is off to an excellent start in conference play and sits in a three-way tie for first place with a 4-1 league mark. The Musketeers have nearly matched last year's win total of 14 and a current 13-3 overall with just two non-conference losses. Xavier is led by Raeshaun Gaffney with 12.3 points per game, which ranks 16th overall in the BIG EAST. Senior Briana Glover is hitting at a 50.4 percent clip (68-135), which is fifth in the conference.
Marquette will then travel to Indianapolis on Sunday, Jan. 17 and take on Butler at 1 p.m. CT, also on BEDN.
