INDIANAPOLIS--The Marquette women's basketball team is back on the court on Sunday, heading to Butler to face the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Central time. The game will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network, via the FOX Sports Go app with Mark MInner and Ralph Reiff calling the action from Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Marquette (6-11, 1-5) is looking to bounce back after falling in a close 71-66 decision at Xavier on Friday evening. Allazia Blockton and Erika Davenport paced the squad with a pair of double-doubles as Blockton notched 22 points and pulled down 11 boards, while Davenport recorded 16 points and took down a career-high 12 rebounds. McKayla Yentz (11) and Natisha Hiedeman (10) also posted double digits.
Blockton's scoring average has increased to 19.1 points per game after her 10th 20-point game this season and she ranks second in the BIG EAST in that category. She is grabbing 8.0 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the league. She is the only player to rank in the top-five in both scoring and rebounds and she has recorded the most 20-point games among BIG EAST players.
Butler also dropped its Friday game, in a 61-54 decision to DePaul. The Bulldogs own a 7-10 record overall and 2-4 mark in conference action. Brittany Ward led the squad with 19 points in the loss, while Blaire Langlois tallied 14 points. Langlois leads Butler with 13.9 points per game.
The Bulldogs can pose a threat from beyond the arc as they rank third in the BIG EAST shooting 35.1 percent, slightly ahead of MU's 34.3 percent mark, and they defend the three-point shot well, allowing teams to shoot just 27.4 percent.
Last season the two squads split the season series, with each team winning the road game.
Marquette returns home following this weekend to open a four-game homestand, beginning with Providence on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. CT on FS1.
