Marquette Closes Road Trip at Creighton on Sunday
Jan. 28, 2017
OMAHA, Neb.--The Marquette women's basketball team will close out a three-game road stretch on Sunday as the Golden Eagles face Bluejays at 1:05 p.m. Central time, airing live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Marquette (16-5, 7-3) will look to bounce back following a narrow 66-64 loss at Providence on Friday evening. Sophomore Allazia Blockton paced the squad with 17 points, along with senior McKayla Yentz who tallied 12 points, while Danielle King and Erika Davenport each turned in 11 point apiece.
The contest with the Friars was fairly evenly played as each team held a 10-point lead in the game and each team held a lead for over 17 minutes of action. Down the stretch, the Friars were able to outscore MU 16-13 in the final quarter and received 52 points combined from duo Jovana Nogic and Sarah Beal.
Creighton also dropped its Friday night contest as the Bluejays fell to DePaul, 60-56, led by Audrey Faber's 14 points, while Jaylyn Agnew turned in 10 points. Creighton was tied with the Blue Demons with 94 second remaining before DePaul sank a three-point shot and the Bluejays could not recover, dropping just their first home loss of the season.
In the first meeting between Marquette and Creighton, the Bluejays took an 83-63 victory in Milwaukee earlier this month and now own a 10-4 lead in the all-time series. MU has dropped four of the past five contests to Creighton.
Following Sunday's game, the Golden Eagles return home and will host Seton Hall on Friday, Feb. 3 at 11:30 a.m. CT.
