Feb. 6, 2016
VILLANOVA, Pa.--The Marquette women's basketball team looks to get back to winning ways on Sunday, Feb. 7 as the Golden Eagles face Villanova at Noon Central time from The Pavilion.
MU fell at Georgetown on Friday, 75-72, which snapped a season-high, five-game winning streak. The squad is now 11-12 overall and 6-6 in the BIG EAST, which is tied for sixth with the Hoyas and Creighton in the league standings.
Villanova also dropped its Friday contest in a 75-47 decision to DePaul as the Wildcats scored just 21 points in the second half. VU is 14-9 overall and 7-5 in the BIG EAST, which is currently fifth.
Against the Hoyas, Blockton led MU with 19 points, while Hiedeman added 18 points and fellow freshman Erika Davenport recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Marquette held a halftime lead on Friday, but was plagued by cold-shooting in the second half in the loss at Georgetown.
The Golden Eagles have four players averaging double digits, led by freshman Allazia Blockton's 18.9 points per game, which is good enough for third place among all league players. Classmate Natisha Hiedeman tallies 14.0 per contest.
The Wildcats are led by Caroline Coyer with 14.2 points per game. The senior ranks fourth in the BIG EAST handing out 4.8 assists per game. Villanova leads the nation with just 7.8 turnovers per game and assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.85 per contest.
In the first meeting this season, Marquette narrowly fell to Villanova, 82-75 after a late-rally fell short in Milwaukee, which put the all-time series at an even 8-8 record.
