Marquette Cruises Past Butler, 80-64
The Marquette women's basketball team sailed to its second BIG EAST victory this season in an 80-64 decision at Butler on Sunday afternoon, paced by 18 points from freshman Allazia Blockton.

Marquette suffered a difficult 81-60 defeat at the hands of Villanova on Sunday, as MU struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 38.2% (13-34) in the opening frame. It was the second consecutive half where the Golden Eagles went cold offensively, as the team shot a cool 22.2% (6-27) in the second half of their 75-72 loss to Georgetown on Friday.

Freshman Natisha Hiedeman nearly eclipsed her first career double-double in MU's losing effort to the Wildcats, as she led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals. Fellow freshman Erika Davenport was also effective offensively for the Blue and Gold, tallying 14 points on 7-9 shooting on the afternoon.

With another consistent shooting performance at Villanova, Davenport remains in the top three in the conference in field goal percentage, and her 57.7% average is the top mark for any freshman in the league. Guard Allazia Blockton continues to lead Marquette in a number of offensive categories including scoring, where her 18.5 points per game average is one of the top marks in the BIG EAST overall, as well as across freshmen in Division I.

The Butler Bulldogs enter the matchup with MU after earning a victory over Providence on Sunday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The victory was just the Bulldogs' third conference triumph of the season, and snapped a streak of seven straight losses for BU. Butler is paced offensively by freshman Tori Schickel, as the Evansville, Ind., native is nearly averaging a double-double, owning a strong 13.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg stat line. Senior Blaire Langlois also plays an important role for the Bulldogs, averaging 11.9 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 3.2 apg.

This will be the second match-up of the season between the two sides with Marquette taking the first game in an 80-64 decision at Hinkle in January.

After the meeting with Butler, Marquette will welcome Xavier to the Al McGuire Center on Sunday Feb. 14 with the tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m. C.T.
