Marquette Holds on for a 73-67 Victory at Xavier
It was another game that went down to the wire for the Marquette women's basketball team as the squad held on for a 73-67 victory at Xavier on Saturday afternoon at the Cintas Center.

The Golden Eagles traveled to Providence in their most recent action on Tuesday, Feb.11, ousting the Friars 71-62. Despite a slow start, MU remained in control throughout most of the contest leading by as many as 15 in the second half. Senior forward Katherine Plouffe notched her ninth double double of the season, scoring 16 points and adding 10 boards. Senior classmate Katie Young fell just short of a double double herself, contributing nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Junior sharpshooter Arlesia Morse knocked down three 3 point baskets en route to her team-high 18 points. Against PC, Morse converted four-straight free throws, which were MU's final four points, and became the 24th player in program to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau.

Xavier dropped a road contest to Georgetown its last time out, falling to the Hoyas 66-58. Sophomore Briana Glover led the Musketeers with a team-high 15 points. Fellow sophomore Aliyah Zantt chipped in 14 points, four rebounds and four steals. XU features three players who average at least 10 points per contest, with Shatyra Hawkes leading the way at 13.9 points per game.

Marquette and Xavier met on Jan.11 in Cincinnati, Ohio, with Marquette claiming a 73-67 victory over the Musketeers at their home court. Morse sank a key 3 pointer with under a minute left to give MU a 70-67 lead, and sophomore point guard Brooklyn Pumroy sealed the deal with three late free throws. The Golden Eagles shot 56.4% in their victory.

After its contest against Xavier, Marquette concludes its two-game home stand when it hosts DePaul (19-5, 10-2) on Tuesday, Feb.18 at 7 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.
