MU Opens Two-Game Road Trip at Syracuse Saturday
Feb. 17, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's basketball team opens a two-game road trip Saturday, Feb. 18 at Syracuse. The 1 p.m. CT tip off at the Carrier Dome will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Network and locally on Sports32 with Bob Picozzi (play-by-play) and LaChina Robinson (analyst) on the call.
For the fourth straight game, Marquette will sport its pink shooting shirts and shoes in support of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Play 4 Kay" initiative to help raise breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Play 4 Kay, formerly known as the Pink Zone, is in honor of the late Kay Yow, former NC State University head women's basketball coach. She served as the catalyst for Play 4 Kay after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009.
With four games left on the schedule before the BIG EAST Conference Championship, Marquette (13-12, 4-8 BIG EAST) sits in a tie for 12th place with Syracuse and Cincinnati. Marquette will face Cincinnati for the second time on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The home stretch of BIG EAST play features three of MU's final four games on the road with its lone home contest against No. 2/2 Connecticut on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Freshman Arlesia Morse has ignited MU's offense in its last four games as she has contributed 17.8 points per game, including a pair of 20-point performances. Morse is second on the team with 10.9 points per game.
Syracuse (15-11, 4-8 BIG EAST) has lost its last two games to Notre Dame (74-55) and Louisville (89-62). Iasia Hemingway leads the Orange with 15.9 points per game, while Kayla Alexander and Carmen Tyson-Thomas average in 15.1 and 10.5 points, respectively.
