MILWAUKEE—After averaging 12.5 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the Golden Eagles’ 1-1 road trip, Marquette University women’s basketball guard Kenisha Bell has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Bell was terrific in Marquette’s 72-64, victory at Providence this past Friday, notching her first-career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Bell also added a team-high six assists in the win.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native, notched Marquette’s first double-double since early November when teammate Arlesia Morse totaled 15 points and 11 boards against South Dakota.
Bell contributed a strong effort in Marquette’s final matchup of the week, registering her 22nd double-figure scoring output with 11 points on the road at Creighton.
The freshman guard has now collected BIG EAST honors four times this season, with three of the accolades being Freshman of the Week honors.
Bell is the team’s second leading scorer at 14.1 points per game, which ranks her 11th in the conference.
The Golden Eagles (8-20, 4-13) conclude their 2014-15 regular season when they head to DePaul, Sunday, March 1, for a 3 p.m. Central time tip off in Chicago.
