Blockton Tabbed to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Feb. 27, 2017
NEW YORK- Marquette University women’s basketball student athlete Allazia Blockton has been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll, the league announced on Monday.
In averaging 16.5 points, 6 boards, and 2 steals per contest on the regular season’s final week, Blockton was a crucial piece towards helping the Golden Eagles secure the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. Marquette’s No. 3 ranking matches the program’s highest seeding in tournament history.
The strong performance over the weekend allowed Blockton to finish the season as the BIG EAST’s leading scorer, as the sophomore averaged 17.2 points per outing, narrowly edging DePaul guard Brooke Schulte’s 17.0 ppg average. Blockton, who held the league’s scoring crown for the majority of the season, also posted 5.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest on the campaign.
Golden Eagles will return to action on Sunday, March 5, in the BIG EAST Tournament at the Al McGuire Center, as the squad looks to protect its No. 3 seeding vs. No. 6 seeded Georgetown at 2:30 p.m. Central time.
