Freshman guard Kenisha Bell
March 2, 2015
MILWAUKEE—For the fourth time this season, Marquette’s Kenisha Bell has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.
Bell’s recognition was the result of the stellar performance she turned in Marquette’s regular season finale on the road at DePaul, in which she notched a team-high 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. In the Golden Eagles’ lone matchup of the week Marquette was able to play the league’s co-champion, DePaul, tough all game long in large part due to the efforts of Bell. Along with Bell’s success on the offensive end, she was also active on defense, with a steal and a block against the Blue Demons.
Bell is the BIG EAST Conference’s leading freshman scorer at 14.3 points per game, which ranks her 11th overall in the conference. The freshman guard is also ranked within the top 10 in the conference in steals and minutes played, and is top 15 in assists.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native, has now collected BIG EAST honors five times this season, picking up four Freshman of the Week awards.
Bell and the No. 8 Golden Eagles return to action this Saturday, March 7, when they take on No. 9 Providence in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois. Tipoff at Allstate Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central time and the action can be viewed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
