MU Set for No. 6 Seed Rutgers in the BIG EAST Championship Second Round

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Marquette women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday evening at the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Championship Presented by American Eagle Outfitters. The No. 14 seed Golden Eagles will take on No. 6 seed Rutgers in the second round at approximately 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT at the XL Center. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network with Bob Picozzi (play-by-play) and LaChina Robinson (analyst) on the call.

MU's second round game can also be seen live on ESPN3 as well as the BIG EAST's website through the conference's official streaming video platform, BIGEAST.tv. A live audio stream will also be available on GoMarquette.com with Kyle Dlabay on the call.

The winner of the Marquette (14-16) versus Rutgers (21-8) second round game will face No. 3 seed Connecticut in the quarterfinals on Sunday, March 34 at 8 p.m.ET/7 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round by virtue of a 54-51 win over No. 11 seed Cincinnati on Friday evening. The win marked first time in BIG EAST Championship play Marquette has defeated a higher seed. Katie Young and Arlesia Morse led the Golden Eagles with 17 and 16 points, respectively, and both knocked down a game-high four 3 pointers.


 

 

The Scarlet Knights own a 9-0 series advantage over the Golden Eagles, including a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST Championship play. Rutgers took the regular-season contest, 69-58, at The RAC on Feb. 27.

Marquette is 1-1 in BIG EAST Championship Second Round action since the tournament included all 16 teams.
