MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's basketball team concludes its 2013-14 regular season when it travels to Villanova Tuesday, March 4 for a 6 p.m. Central time tip.

The Golden Eagles (20-8, 11-6) have won five of their last six contests, and have knocked off two-consecutive teams that are ranked within the top 50 RPI in the nation in St. John's (21) and Creighton (50).

Last time out against Creighton on March 1, MU toppled the Bluejays 73-71, thanks in part to a career-high 33 points from senior forward Katherine Plouffe. Plouffe knocked down several key baskets down the stretch, including a career-high three 3-point baskets. After leading by as many as nine, Marquette saw Creighton battle back late in the second half to grab a five point advantage with two minutes left in regulation. Junior Arlesia Morse, who finished up 14 points off the bench for MU, made two key 3-pointers to propel the blue and gold to victory. Sophomore guard Brooklyn Pumroy dished a career-high 12 assists in MU's home finale.

Marquette Loses First League Game to Villanova, 63-61
The Marquette University women's basketball team dropped its first BIG EAST Conference game on Tuesday afternoon to Villanova, 63-61, at the Al McGuire Center.

Villanova (21-7, 11-6) notched a road victory over Xavier 57-55 in its most recent action on March 1. Villanova's senior guard Devon Kane led all scorers with 16 points and also gave out a game-high seven assists. Sophomore guard Katherine Coyer also chipped in 12 points and tallied six assists for the Wildcats.

Marquette and Villanova are deadlocked in a tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST Conference, both with a conference record of 11-6. With a win over the Wildcats on Tuesday, Marquette could finish as high as second in the conference depending on the outcomes of other matchups. With a loss against Villanova, MU will finish fifth in the conference.

 

 

Win or lose, the Golden Eagles are guaranteed a first round bye in the conference tournament. Marquette will return to action on Sunday, March 9 in BIG EAST Conference Tournament action, game time hinges upon what seed the Golden Eagles are granted. Allstate Arena will host the BIG EAST Championship March 9-11, first round games on March 8 will be played at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
