MILWAUKEE--The No.5 seeded Marquette University women's basketball team (20-9, 11-7) is set to take on No.4 seed Villanova (22-7, 12-6 ) in the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Central time at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

The Golden Eagles finished up conference play with a record of 11-7, while Villanova finished tied with Creighton for third in the BIG EAST with a record of 12-6.

MU Finishes Regular Season with 81-64 Loss at Villanova
The Marquette women's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 81-64 loss to Villanova at The Pavilion on Tuesday night.

Two of MU's seven conference losses came at the hands of the Wildcats, including an 81-64 loss on in its most recent action on March 4 at Villanova. In the last meeting of the two squads, sophomore guard Brooklyn Pumroy scored a team-high 13 points, while junior Arlesia Morse chipped in 12 points off the bench. Senior forward Katherine Plouffealso added 11 points for MU. Marquette was unable to overcome Villanova's hot shooting. The Wildcats shot a blistering 59.2 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from beyond the arc. Junior forward Emily Leer and senior guard Devon Kane each poured in 23 points for VU.

Villanova escaped with a 63-61 victory in Milwaukee on Dec. 31. Despite a six point lead at the half, Marquette was unable to fend off the pesky Wildcats. Katie Young, Apiew Ojulu, Plouffe and Pumroy all scored in double digits for the Golden Eagles, while Villanova's Caroline Coyer led all scorers with 20.

Sunday's action features the league's top rated defense in Villanova (57.6 points per game) and the league's second ranked offense in Marquette (73.9 points per game).

With a win against the Wildcats, Marquette would advance to the semi-finals to take on the winner of No. 1 DePaul and No. 8 Georgetown/No. 9 Xavier on Monday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m.
