MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's basketball team has earned a No. 5 seed in the Stockton Region of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship and will face No. 12 seed Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 18 at the Watsco Center on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. The broadcast will air on ESPN2 at 12:30 p.m. Central time with Jenn Hildreth (play-by-play) and Steffi Sorensen (analyst) calling the action.

The Golden Eagles (25-7) make their 10th all-time NCAA appearance and first since the 2010-11 campaign and at the No. 5 seed have earned the best seed in program history.

Marquette is 4-9 all-time in NCAA Tournament action and has never advanced past the second round.

Quinnipiac earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament automatic bid with an 81-73 victory over Rider in the title game on March 6, which extended the Bobcats' winning streak to 10 games. This is the third NCAA Championship appearance in the past five years for Quinnipiac and the Bobcats are 0-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, falling as a No. 13 seed to No. 4 Maryland in 2013 (72-52) and as a No. 12 seed against No. 5 Oklahoma in 2015 (111-84).

The winner of the first round matchup will face the winner of No. 4 seed Miami/No. 13 Florida Gulf Coast on Monday, March 20.
