Marquette to Play in Cancun Challenge
May 10, 2017
MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's basketball team and head coach Carolyn Kieger have announced the squad will participate in the 2017 Women's Cancun Challenge from Nov. 23-25 at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on the Yucatan Peninsula.
The trip to Cancun will mark the second time that the Golden Eagles have participated in the Thanksgiving weekend held event, as MU split a pair of games against Cleveland State and Duke in Mexico during the 2009-10 campaign.
In total, 10 teams will compete in the Cancun Challenge including Arizona State, Columbia, Green Bay, Mississippi State, Montana, Oklahoma State, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Indiana State. Six of the invited teams won 20 or more games in the 2016-17 season, while five participated in the 2017 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
Marquette will open play against Tennessee on Thursday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. Central time and take on Montana on Friday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. CT.
For fans looking to follow the Golden Eagles to Mexico, the Challenge is offering multiple fan lodging and admissions packages. Accommodations include tickets to all tournament games, unlimited food and beverages, round trip transportation between the airport and the resort, and admission to the team banquet, among many other special offers.
The Golden Eagles, who eclipsed their highest seeding in NCAA Tournament program history last season after posting a 25-8 record and winning the BIG EAST Tournament, have yet to release the remainder of their 2017-18 schedule.
