Marquette Announces BIG EAST Opponents for 2012-13
June 13, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The BIG EAST Conference announced the home and away league schedule of opponents for the 2012-13 women's basketball season Wednesday. Highlighting Marquette's conference home schedule are contests versus six 2012 NCAA Championship participants, including national runner-up Notre Dame and national semifinalist Connecticut.
Marquette will play the Huskies twice in 2012-13, once at the Al McGuire Center and once in Connecticut.
Along with the Huskies and the Fighting Irish, the Golden Eagles welcome DePaul, Louisville, Rutgers, St. John's, Syracuse and Cincinnati to the Al McGuire Center.
The format for regular-season league play is a 16-game schedule. Each team plays 16 conference games - hosting six opponents at home and playing at six opponents, while having two repeat opponents where both a home and away game will be played. Each member has a total of eight home and eight away games. The rationale in determining the repeat opponents is to provide additional quality television inventory, for competitive issues/RPI implications as well as geographic rivalries/minimizing travel costs.
Marquette's other repeat opponent is Cincinnati. The Golden Eagles and Bearcats will square off at both the Al McGuire Center and the Fifth Third Arena.
The Golden Eagles road opponents include Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Providence, Seton Hall, USF and Villanova.
The complete 2012-13 women's basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
