Golden Eagles Enjoy Success Under Sunny Skies at Tee It Up for Hoops
June 26, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Thanks to contributions by many Milwaukee-area businesses and individual donors, the Marquette women's basketball team enjoyed another successful day at the Tee It Up for Hoops golf outing.
One hundred twenty-five friends of the program enjoyed golf and a bountiful lunch at The Legend at Bristlecone in Hartland, Wis. This year's outing generated $35,000 for the women's basketball program.
Mary Ellen Markowski and women's basketball executive assistant Erin Wright served as the executive committee for the outing. The women's basketball program also saw many familiar faces on the course as 25 former student-athletes either played or donated to this year's outing.
"Tee It Up for Hoops was a tremendous event that not only gave us the opportunity to celebrate women's basketball at Marquette, but to look ahead to all of the great things in store for the future," said head coach Terri Mitchell. "We owe so much gratitude and thanks to Mary Ellen and Erin for their efforts and ensuring it was a success. Our staff and players had a wonderful time and we are already looking forward to next year's event."
"I participated in the Tee it Up for Hoops golf outing for the first time and it was a blast," said Kristin (Johnson) Zimet (1998-2002). "What a wonderful event to raise money and to support the Marquette women's basketball program and Marquette Athletics. It was very organized, the course was beautiful and the lunch was terrific. It was a great day spent with the MU family, friends and fans."
The 8 a.m. shot-gun start outing featured a par-3 challenge along with longest and shortest drive contests at various holes where Mitchell, members of her staff, student-athletes and former players were stationed throughout the course.
"I had a wonderful time at this year's Tee It Up for Hoops," added Kareeda Chones-Aguam (1994-98). "I enjoyed visiting with past teammates and current players, as well as women's basketball fans and loyal supporters. The success of the event is due to the passion, hard work and belief the MU staff, fans and supporters have in the women's basketball program past and present."
After the 18 holes were complete, participants feasted on the buffet lunch and enjoyed a live auction by the voice of Marquette basketball, Steve "The Homer" True.
"It was a great day and a great way to be able to catch up with friends, coaches, and everyone associated with Marquette Women's Basketball," said Danielle Kamm (2003-07). "The event is also a fun way for the alumni to be able give back to a program that did so much for us as student-athletes."
Next year's Tee It Up for Hoops golf outing is set for June 11, 2013 at The Legend at Bristlecone. For more information about how to get involved with Tee It Up for Hoops, please contact Erin Wright in the women's basketball office at 414-288-5784.
