NEW YORK-- The BIG EAST Conference has released the 2016-17 women's basketball schedule and Marquette will open league play on Wednesday, Dec. 28 as the Golden Eagles travel to Villanova.

Marquette will open the BIG EAST slate on the road for the second consecutive season. Following Villanova, MU travels to Georgetown on Friday, Dec. 30 before returning to the Al McGuire Center for the league home opener on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Central time hosting Creighton on FS1. In the first 12 days of league play, Marquette will play six games in that span before returning to the Friday/Sunday schedule of conference games for the third straight season.

In addition to Creighton, Marquette will also play on national television on Sunday, Jan. 15 when the squad hosts Butler (FS1) at Noon and Sunday, Feb. 19 hosting DePaul at 1 p.m. CT on FS2. All remaining conference games will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via Fox Sports Go, for the second consecutive year.

The Golden Eagles conclude regular season action with three straight home contests beginning with DePaul, Sunday, Feb. 19and ending with Georgetown on Friday, Feb. 24 and Villanova on Sunday, Feb. 26.

For the first time ever Marquette will host the 2017 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament March 4-7 at the Al McGuire Center. Opening rounds of the tournament will be shown on the BIG EAST Digital Network, while FS2 will carry the quarterfinals. The semifinals and championship game will air on FS1, Tuesday, March 7.

"As always, this year's BIG EAST schedule will challenge us immediately in the first game, and we are all looking forward to the opportunity to show how much we have grown and matured," head coach Carolyn Kieger said. "With the excitement of hosting the BIG EAST Tournament, our fans will get a sneak peek of all of the teams that will head to the Al McGuire Center in March.

Season tickets are currently on sale starting at $50 for general admission (upper level & lower bench), with lower-reserved chair back seats available for $100. A season ticket 'Family Plan' is also available and includes two adult and two youth general admission season tickets for just $125.
