Marquette Madness Officially Tips Off 2016-17 Season

Photo Gallery Marquette men's and women's basketball fans were introduced to both 2016-17 squads Friday night at the Al McGuire Center as nearly 4,000 people were in attendance for Marquette Madness.
The festivities tipped off Friday afternoon with the Homecoming Block Party and concluded with the always popular dunk contest.
After head women's coach Carolyn Kieger pumped up the Al McGuire Center crowd, the squad went into the annual Blue versus Gold scrimmage. The Blue team claimed the victory by a score of 22-21 with the help of three treys from all various players. Blue put on display their team chemistry with impressive passing from sophomores Natisha Hiedeman and Ericka Davenport and to finish off the point, freshman, Altia Anderson.
The Marquette men's team debuted their 100th year anniversary video to start of its night. After introducing the returners and the five new Golden Eagles, the men's and women's team rolled into a three-point competition. After inner-squad competition, senior McKayla Yentz and redshirt junior Andrew Rowsey were the winners to represent their respective teams.
Rowsey and Yentz put on a show for the crown as they came down to the final seconds. After being down to treys, Rowsey cleaned out the top rack making every bucket to notch the win by a score of 17-12 three-point baskets.
Freshman Markus Howard was a late entrant into the dunk contest, but junior Sandy Cohen III stole the show with a pair of impressive throw downs to claim the title.
