SPRINGFIELD, MASS. -- Marquette University women's basketball forward Erika Davenport has been selected to the watch list for the 2018 Cheryl Miller Award, an annual award recognizing the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I Basketball. This will be the inaugural season for the award.

Davenport was a 2017 All-BIG EAST honoree following a successful sophomore campaign. The Clarkston, Mich. product was just shy of averaging a double-double in her sophomore season (13.4 points/game, 9.2 rebounds/game), but led the league with a total of 14 double-doubles.

Davenport's accuracy from the field made a dent nationally, ranking her 20th in the NCAA in field goal percentage (57.4 percent) and top-50 in rebounds (305 total, 9.2 rebounds/game).

Davenport was selected as a unanimous pick to the preseason All-BIG EAST squad and the Golden Eagles enter the 2017-18 campaign as the unanimous favorites to win the league.

The Selection Committee for the Cheryl Miller Award is composed of the top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the award will be narrowed to 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.

The winner will be announced on Friday, March 30 during the 2018 NCAA Women's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio, during the ESPN2 telecast. Additional awards will be presented, including the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Award, an award that Marquette's Allazia Blockton and Natisha Hiedeman have been selected to the watch list for.

Cheryl Miller was a small forward for the University of Southern California's women's basketball team from 1982-86. She won two NCAA Division I Championships with the Trojans, was a four-time All-American and a three-time Naismith Player of the Year.
