Women's Basketball Opens 2012-13 Campaign on Saturday
Nov. 9, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's basketball team opens its 2012-13 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 10, when it welcomes Butler to the Al McGuire Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game's action will be streamed live, free of charge, on GoMarquette.com's multimedia platform, MUTube with Kent Sommerfeld on play-by-play and Kyle Dlaby as an analyst.
Butler is coming off a 13-17 season in 2011-12, ending a four-year streak of 20-win seasons. Beth Couture enters her 11th season at the helm of the Bulldogs, who added seven newcomers, including three transfers, to this year's roster.
After making the jump from the Horizon League to the Atlantic-10 Conference this past off-season, Butler is picked to finish 12th according to the conference's preseason poll. Junior center Sarah Hamm, Butler's leading scorer and rebounder from last year, will be out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in preseason workouts.
Marquette has won its last nine season-opening contests and currently boasts a 23-14 all-time mark in those games. Last season, MU topped Mississippi Valley State, 69-61, to start the campaign 1-0.
As part of the homeopener festivities admission is 2-for-1 on Saturday and there is a kickoff carnival with carnival games on the concourse and pre-game prizes. We will also be giving away the official 2012-13 Marquette Women's Basketball schedule poster.
Following the game with the Bulldogs, Marquette will head to Georgia Tech on Sunday, Nov. 18 to kick-off a four-game road stretch.
