ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--The 2017-18 slate begins on Monday for the No. 17/19 Marquette women's basketball team as the Golden Eagles open at New Mexico Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. Central time.

The season lidlifter will air live on the Mountain West Network from Dreamstyle Arena in Albuquerque.

Marquette is preseason ranked in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time in program history and earns its highest ranking since 2007. The Golden Eagles are the unanimous preseason favorites to win the BIG EAST Conference and return all five leading scorers, nearly 90 percent of their offense from last year's squad that won the league tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Marquette Rolls Past New Mexico, 62-52
Senior McKayla Yentz poured in a season-high 16 points to lead four Golden Eagles in double figures as the Marquette women's basketball team topped New Mexico, 62-52 on Wednesday afternoon.

New Mexico (1-0) opened its campaign on Friday night with an 88-76 victory over Western Michigan. The Lobos were led by Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year Cherise Beynon with 24 points, while MWC Preseason Newcomer of the Year Tesha Buck tallied 22 points. New Mexico was picked to finish fourth in the Mountain West Conference.

Last season in Milwaukee, Marquette handed the Lobos a 62-52 loss at the Al McGuire Center as four Golden Eagles poured in double figures.

Following this contest MU will head home for its home opener at the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles welcome Loyola Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. CT.

Season Lidlifter
Monday marks the official start of the 43rd season of Marquette Women's Basketballand the program is 643-559 overall. Marquette is 26-16 all-time in season openers.

Road Trip
The Golden Eagles open their regular season on the road for the first time since 2015-16 when they played at Green Bay. Marquette owns a 1-2 record in season openers under Carolyn Kieger.

MU Trio Recognized on Watch Lists
A trio of Marquette juniors landed on preseason award watch lists. Allazia Blockton and Natisha Hiedeman are part of the 20-player Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List given to the nation's top point guard. Blockton has led the Golden Eagles in scoring each of her first two seasons and is on track to become the program's all-time leading scorer while Hiedeman is already climbing the ranks for her three-point shooting.
In the backcourt, Erika Davenport is on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List given to the top small forward. The junior has been a double-double machine, leading the BIG EAST with 14 last season while averaging 13.4 ppg and 9.2 rpg last season. This season marks the first time these awards will be given out and the winner will be announced at the Final Four.

Kieger's Leadership In women's basketball history head coach Carolyn Kieger is the 36th to coach and play for a ranked team, and the 11th to do this at her alma mater.
