Golden Eagles Host Creighton Thursday

The Marquette women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Al McGuire Center Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. to host Creighton as part of a short two-game homestand. The game can be heard live on WJYI 1340 AM with Kent Sommerfeld calling the action. WMUR will also be streaming a live online broadcast. Thursday night is senior citizen night at the Al McGuire Center. All adults ages 55 and older receive half price admission and concessions. The Golden Eagles (1-1) will be looking to rebound from the 67-50 loss at Michigan Monday night. Senior Janelle Harris led Marquette with a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds, junior guard Angel Robinson also contributed 11 points. Creighton (2-0), who was selected to win the Missouri Valley Conference, returns seven letterwinners and four starters from last season's team which finished 22-12 overall, 14-4 in MVC play. The Bluejays recently topped Arkansas State (77-54) and Davidson (77-58) in Omaha. Marquette is 1-4 all-time against the Bluejays. Marquette won the last meeting in overtime 75-69 at the Al McGuire Center in the second round of the WNIT. Thursday night's matchup between Marquette and Creighton is part of the nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project, using Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education. Both Marquette and Creighton are Jesuit schools. The Golden Eagles will take on two more Jesuit schools this season in Canisius (Dec. 21) and Georgetown (Jan. 27). The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project highlights more than 90 games this season between men's and women's teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Each of the 28 is dedicated to strong academics and teaching women and men to serve others and live a faith that does justice. The Golden Eagles will close out its short two-game homestand against Oakland at 2p.m., at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday, Nov. 21.
