Nov. 18, 2016
MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's basketball team will welcome No. 18 Arizona State to the Al McGuire Center on Nov. 19 with tipoff slated for 2 p.m. CT.
Fans are encouraged to wear gold Marquette gear, to help GOLD OUT the Al McGuire Center. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Marquette women's basketball shirt.
The Golden Eagles (2-0), fresh off a 104-91 win over Saint Francis (PA) and falling one point short of most points scored at the Al McGuire Center, will look to build off of their strong offensive performance to open the season.
Through two games, MU has been led by Allazia Blockton and Erika Davenport. Blockton has tallied 19 and 24 points in her two outings, while Davenport has averaged 20.5 points, also recording two-straight double-doubles.
Along with Blockton and Davenport, Amani Wilborn and McKayla Yentz are also averaging double digits at 12.5 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Danielle King is averaging 9.5 points and 6.0 assists this season.
The Sun Devils have relied on a balanced offensive attack, featuring nine players who have averaged at least five points through two games. Freshman Reili Richardson is one of three Arizona State players to average 9.0 points through two games, which resulted in Richardson being named the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
The all-time series with the Sun Devils currently sits at 1-2. The two squads faced off last year in Tempe, Ariz. which resulted in an Arizona State 90-80 victory. Blockton and Davenport posted double-doubles for Marquette, but Arizona State relied on 57.1% shooting from the field to secure the victory.
Marquette's last victory over a ranked opponent came when it beat No. RV/24 Seton Hall, 73-70 on Feb. 15, 2015 at the Al McGuire Center.
Following the matchup with Arizona State, Marquette will hit the road for three-straight games, the first at No. 24 Oregon State on Nov. 22 in Corvallis, Ore. at 8 p.m. Central time.
