Marquette Returns Home to Host Fordham Saturday
Nov. 30, 2012
MILWAUKEE - After concluding a four-game road swing with a 77-74 overtime victory at South Dakota State Wednesday evening, the Marquette University women's basketball team will return home to the Al McGuire Center to host Fordham on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
The game's action will be streamed live, free of charge, on GoMarquette.com's multimedia platform, MUTube with Kent Sommerfeld on play-by-play and Kyle Dlaby as an analyst.
Marquette (3-2) relied on young talent to top South Dakota State with sophomore Arlesia Morse and freshman Brooklyn Pumroy notching a season-high 23 and career-best 17 points, respectively. Morse shot 50-percent from the floor on 6-of-12 shooting, while Pumroy knocked down six of her 11 shot attempts.
MU has a pair of players averaging double-digit point totals in Morse (13.8 ppg) and junior Katherine Plouffe (12.6 ppg), while junior Katie Young has provided a spark coming off the bench to chip in 9.6 points peer contest. Morse has been a threat from long range through the first five games, hitting 42.9-percent of her three-point shots.
Fordham (5-1) started the season with a four-game win streak, before suffering its lone set back at Pacific, 62-40, on Nov. 23. After the loss, the Rams returned home to grab a 55-45 win against Manhattan last time out.
Graduate student Marah Strickland has been the leader for the Rams this season, averaging just over 14 points a game (14.4). Redshirt junior Erin Rooney has also been a key contributor for Fordham with 12. 8 ppg and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Junior Abigail Corning has pulled down 39 rebounds (6.5 rpg) on the campaign, with almost half of them coming on the offensive end.
Saturday evening's contest will mark the first time in program history that Marquette has played Fordham.
