MILWAUKEE - Join the Marquette women's basketball team and legendary coach Pat Summitt this Saturday Dec. 15 when the Golden Eagles host Toledo at 7 p.m. CT for 'We Back Pat' night in support of the Pat Summitt foundation.
After suffering a set back at home against instate rival Green Bay, the Golden Eagles return to the Al McGuire Center looking to rebound against the Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference.
Against Green Bay, Marquette held a 26-23 lead at the half but ultimately could not hold off the Phoenix dropping the contest 55-46.
Senior Sarina Simmons led the Golden Eagles with ten points, while hitting 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc and recording three steals. MU also enjoyed a solid contribution from junior forward Katherine Plouffe who chipped in nine points and 5 rebounds. Redshirt freshman Lauren Tibbs hauled in a career-high seven rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots in the loss to the Phoenix.
The Toledo Rockets (7-1) are on fire, coming in to the matchup riding a six-game winning streak. In their most recent matchup Toledo knocked off the Golden Eagles' Milwaukee counterpart, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 83-59. The three-time MAC West Division champions featured four double-digit scorers in their rout of UWM. Redshirt senior Naama Shafir paced the Rockets' offense, registering 19 points, six assists and six rebounds.
Shafir is a key cog in Toledo's offense, leading the team in scoring and assists. Fellow senior Yolanda Richardson is the Rockets' primary rebounder, averaging 6.6 per contest.
This is the fifth meeting all-time between Marquette and Toledo. The Golden Eagles hold a 4-0 advantage over the Rockets.
