NEW YORK – Marquette University women’s basketball freshman Allazia Blockton has been selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time, the league office announced on Monday.

Blockton notched her third double-double of the season on Sunday with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, helping the Golden Eagles to a 70-69 overtime victory over Auburn. She also added five assists and two steals. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin product helped spark MU’s fourth-quarter rally with her lone three-point shot and a lay-up that put the Golden Eagles within one possession. She also tallied three points and grabbed two boards in overtime to keep Marquette in front for the entire extra period.

This is the second consecutive week that Blockton has earned the top rookie honor and her third consecutive weekly award. She is third in the BIG EAST and the league’s top-scoring freshman with 16.2 points per game and ranks sixth with 7.0 rebounds per game.

MU is off until Saturday when the squad travels to No. 24 Arizona State for a tip-off at 4:00 p.m. Central time.
