Marquette Hosts Vermont on MPS Day Wednesday

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's basketball team is set to host Vermont for its final game before the Christmas holiday Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the Al McGuire Center. The noon tip-off can be seen live on's multimedia platform, MUTube with Kent Sommerfeld and Kyle Dlabay calling the action.

Over 3,000 Milwaukee Public School students representing 25 schools will be in attendance Wednesday afternoon for the Golden Eagles' MPS Day. The game will serve as an educational field trip for elementary and middle school students enrolled in the Milwaukee Public School System.

Marquette will look for its third straight win on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles defeated South Dakota State, 59-51, and Iona, 93-44, in convincing fashion, in their last two outings. Katherine Plouffe has been a steady and consistent force for Marquette averaging a near double-double with 20 points and 9.5 rebounds in MU's last two wins. Through 12 games, Plouffe ranks second in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, knocking down 60.2 percent of her attempts from the floor.

Vermont (6-4) is the in midst of an eight-game road trip and arrives in Milwaukee on a three-game skid with losses at Northeastern (78-62), Brown (61-57) and Nebraska (94-41). Lauren Buschman leads the Catamounts with 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Wednesday's game will mark the second meeting between the Catamounts and the Golden Eagles. Marquette rolled to a 68-19 win over Vermont in the two teams' first meeting last season on Dec. 4, 2010. The 19 points marked an MU Division I record low. The Golden Eagles held the Catamounts without a basket for the first 7:42 of the game and allowed just six points in the first half.
