MU Finishes Non-Conference Lineup Sunday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team (3-7) will look to continue its winning ways as it closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday when the squad hosts Western Illinois at 2 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.

Sunday is Christmas at the Al and multiple holiday themed promotions will occur throughout the game. Join the Marquette coaching staff in wearing a "Tacky" Christmas sweater to have your picture taken with the Golden Eagle and be eligible for a prize.

Marquette bested Vanderbilt in its most recent outing on Thursday with an 80-67 decision. Senior Apiew Ojulu, and freshmen Kenisha Bell and Tia Elbert each poured in 14 points to lead the Golden Eagles in the victory. Elbert dished a career-high-tying nine assists. Senior Chelsie Butler grabbed a game-high 10 boards in the game.

Bell leads MU with 15.2 points per game which ranks ninth among BIG EAST players and first overall of all rookies. Senior Arlesia Morse is second on the squad with 13.3 points per game and ranks 15th in the league.

Western Illinois heads into the game with a 6-4 overall record, but has not played since Dec. 12. The Leathernecks are led by Ashley Luke with 17.4 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per contest. Tori Niemann is also averaging double digits with 10.2 points per night.

This is the fourth all-time meeting between the two squads, but the first since 1989, MU owns a 2-1 overall record against Western Illinois.

Following this game the Golden Eagles will be off until Dec. 30 when the squad opens BIG EAST play hosting Xavier.
