MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday when the Golden Eagles welcome New Mexico to the Al McGuire Center at 11:30 a.m. Central time.

Wednesday is Marquette's annual Milwaukee Public Schools' Day with thousands of area students expected to fill the Al.

Marquette boasts an 8-2 record heading into Wednesday's game and is off to it is best start since the 2013-14 season when the Golden Eagles entered BIG EAST play with a 9-2 record.

The Golden Eagles are led by sophomore Allazia Blockton averaging 18.5 points per game, which also tops the BIG EAST, while she is also grabbing 5.4 rebounds, which is 14th in the league. MU has three players rank in the league's top-20 in both scoring and rebounding as sophomore Natisha Hiedeman is eighth with 14.3 points per game and ninth in rebounding at 6.3 boards, while classmate Erika Davenport ranks 10th in the BIG EAST with 13.8 points and is second in rebounding, pulling down 9.5 each night.

Marquette recently defeated Milwaukee, 85-74, on Sunday with six Golden Eagles pouring in double digits efforts. Hiedeman led the squad with 18 points, while junior Shantelle Valentine notched a career-best 12 points.

New Mexico is 4-5 overall and led by senior Richelle van der Keijl with 16.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game as Cherise Beynon is tallying 14.8 points and taking down 8.4 boards per contest. The Lobos have been off since Dec. 11 as a Dec. 18 game against Eastern Illinois was postponded due to inclement weather. In their last time out New Mexico defeated UTEP, 79-66 paced by 24 points from Beynon.

Wednesday is just the second all-time meeting between MU and the Lobos with New Mexico squeaking through to 73-71 victory on Dec. 31, 1995 in Milwaukee.

The Golden Eagles will break for the Christmas holiday an open BIG EAST play at Villanova on Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Central time. The game will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network and locally can be found on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
