Blockton Selected as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University women’s basketball freshman Allazia Blockton has been selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive time, the league office announced on Monday.

Blockton totaled her fourth double-double of the season at No. 21/23 Arizona State on Saturday. The Milwaukee native loaded the box score with a career-high-tying 22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals to lead four Golden Eagles in double digits. In four games this season against teams either ranked or receiving votes, Blockton has averaged 15.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Her overall scoring average of 16.8 points per game leads Marquette and ranks third in the BIG EAST and she is the top scoring freshman in the league.

This is the third consecutive week that Blockton has earned the top rookie honor and her fourth consecutive weekly award.

MU will travel across town to face Milwaukee on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. Central time at the Klotsche Center. The game will air live on
