Dec. 22, 2014

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's basketball freshman Kenisha Bell was selected as the College Sports Madness BIG EAST Women's Basketball Player of the Week and was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for her play in back-to-back wins as part of a 2-1 week.

Now with three weekly awards on the season, Bell has earned the most thus far for any of the Golden Eagles.

Bell put together three strong performances in wins over Vanderbilt and Western Illinois, and also lead the Golden Eagles in scoring in a loss vs. Northern Kentucky.

Against NKU, Bell led a near comeback by scoring 15 of her career-high 25 points in the second half. Many of these points came off the extended pressure Bell put on the Northern Kentucky ball handlers, which allowed her to tally a career-high eight steals. She also got to the line eight times, converting on five attempts.

In what was the most efficient offensive performance for the Golden Eagles in a win over Vanderbilt, Bell put in 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting, which was tied for a game-high

On Sunday Bell again worked hard on the defensive end again by racking up four steals to help force 21 Western Illinois turnovers.

Over the three games, Bell averaged 16.3 points on 49 percent shooting, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and 2.3 assists.

Bell & Co. will look to carry this momentum as BIG EAST play begins next Tuesday, Dec. 30 when Marquette welcomes Xavier to the Al McGuire Center for a 7 p.m. Central time matchup.
