Davenport Selected as BIG EAST Player of the Week
Dec. 23, 2017
NEW YORK--Marquette University women's basketball junior Erika Davenport was selected as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced on Saturday.
Davenport helped the Golden Eagles (6-5) push No. 2/2 Notre Dame to the brink in overtime on Wednesday as the Clarkston, Mich. native went for 19 points and a career-best 16 rebounds in South Bend. Her 16 boards are the most the Fighting Irish have allowed a single player to snag since Nov. 17, 2016.
Davenport shot 7-of-11 from the field while seven of her rebounds came off the offensive glass. Eight of those boards came in the fourth quarter as Marquette erased an eight-point deficit to force Notre Dame into its first overtime contest of the season.
MU will open BIG EAST play hosting St. John's on Thursday, Dec. 28. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on FS2.
