MU Notches Record-Breaking Win Over Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team won its second straight game and set a program record for single-game goals with a 20-7 win over Kennesaw State Tuesday on the road.
Nearly every Golden Eagle saw action in the record-breaking win that featured 11 players reach the scoring column. Seven players registered multi-goal games, including Amanda Bochniak who had another four-point game including a hat trick – her second such performance in as many games. Allison Lane also scored a hat trick to go along with three ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Julianna Shearer filled the stat sheet as well, scoring two goals and an assist along with five ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover. Grace Gabriel, Riley Hill, Claire Costanza and Charlotte McGuire each totaled two goals in the win.
Marquette (2-3) raced out to a 10-4 halftime lead before outscoring the Owls 10-3 in the second half. The dominating effort was highlighted by a 45-20 shots advantage and just eight turnovers as compared to 24 team turnovers for KSU (0-2).
This season marked the first in which a 90-second possession clock was instituted and entering Tuesday’s game, the Golden Eagles had forced only one possession clock violation. On Tuesday, the Marquette defense did so twice and had the KSU attack feeling out of sorts all game.
KSU was led by Sydney Farwick’s three goals on five shots, while Izzy Palermo added two scores.
The Golden Eagles will take the momentum of two straight wins into Boulder, Colorado to face the No. 13/9 Buffaloes on Sunday. First draw is set for 2 p.m. Central time.
