Women’s Lax Takes Down Niagara in Record-Setting Win

MILWAUKEE – Senior Charlotte McGuire led the way with a sock-trick, while fellow classmate Riley Hill added four goals and four assists as the Marquette University women’s lacrosse team once again broke the program record for goals in handing Niagara its first loss of the season in a 23-15 win inside the Valley Dome on Saturday.
In what began as a back-and-forth battle, the Golden Eagles were able to pull away and outlast the Purple Eagles in a high-scoring affair. In addition to McGuire and Hill, junior Grace Gabriel tallied four goals and an assist to bring her season total to 29 points, including 26 goals. The Lancaster, New York, native also added three groundballs, four caused turnovers and a season-high nine draw controls.
A total of 23 Golden Eagles saw playing time this afternoon and nine found the score sheet.
Freshman goalie Sophia Leva notched eight saves in 41 minutes of action as she picked up her first career victory.
The Purple Eagles (3-1) were led by Rachel MacCheyne's six goals, two assists and nine draw controls. She was one of six Niagara players to find the back of the net on Saturday, including Alexis Morales, who added a hat trick.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday, March 10, when they take on Northwestern on the road. First draw is set for 12 p.m. Central time. Marquette’s next home game will be the BIG EAST Conference opener against Cincinnati on Sunday, March 18.
