Marquette Picks up First Home Win over Coastal Carolina, 10-7

MILWAUKEE – A year after posting a game-winning goal in double overtime to help the Marquette University women’s lacrosse team to its first-ever win at Coastal Carolina, midfielder Hayley Bass netted four goals as the Golden Eagles topped CCU, 10-7, at Valley Fields on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the four markers from Baas, the Golden Eagles (3-3) received a pair of goals from freshman Julianna Shearer and sophomore Kenzie Brown. Baas and Shearer are now tied for the team lead in goals with 12 apiece on the season.
The Chanticleers (2-5) were led by three goals from freshman midfielder Alicia Geiter, while sophomore attack Mikayla Sweeney added two tallies.
Taylor Smith and Shearer scored the first two goals of the game for Marquette, which led 5-4 at halftime.
Coastal Carolina rallied to tie the game at 5-5 just over four minutes into the second half, before goals from Baas and Brown gave the Golden Eagles back a two goal edge, 7-5.
Following a pair of CCU goals to re-tie the contest at 7-7 with 16 minutes remaining, the Golden Eagles scored the final three goals of the game for the final 10-7 margin.
Marquette held a 25-15 edge in shots on the game and a 17-9 lead in ground balls.
The Golden Eagles return to action on at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 15 at Harvard.
