Marquette Falls 15-6 at Harvard

BOSTON – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team fell 15-6 to Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Soldiers Field Lacrosse Stadium in Boston.
The Golden Eagles (3-4) received a pair of goals from attackers Claire Costanza and Emily Donovan, while freshman Amanda Bochniak and sophomore Kenzie Brown added a goal apiece. Bochniak also posted a pair of assists in the loss and Brown tallied her fifth-straight game finding the score sheet.
The Crimson (3-2) was led by freshman Marisa Romeo’s game-high four goals and also received a hat trick and two assists from Megan Hennessey.
Harvard out-shot the Golden Eagles 38-25, but Marquette sophomore goalie Sarah Priem made 11 saves in net for the Golden Eagles, who picked up a season-high 22 ground balls in the loss.
Romeo found the back of the net just 36 seconds into regulation and the Crimson built an early 3-0 lead before Costanza and Donovan posted their first tallies of the afternoon. Harvard scored the final two goals of the first half and took a slim 5-2 lead into the break despite holding a 19-8 edge in shots.
The Crimson outscored MU 10-4 over the final 30 minutes of regulation, while garnering 11 of 15 total draw controls in that span. Marquette saw 20 fouls called against it in the second half, resulting in five free position shot goals by Harvard.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 at Notre Dame.
