MILWAUKEE - Despite a career-high 14 saves in net from freshman goalie Sarah Priem, the Marquette University women's lacrosse team fell 9-4 to No. 19 Rutgers Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.

The Golden Eagles (2-8) held a 1-0 lead to open the game on a goal from freshman Molly O'Brien at the 23:24 mark of the opening half. O'Brien received a pass from Claire Costanza about three meters out, dodged a defender and fired a shot past Rutgers goalie Lily Kalata for her first goal of the year.

Rutgers (8-2) didn't notch its first goal until the 19:48 mark of the first on a shot from Hailey Barnes, but built a 4-1 lead before Emily Donovan answered for the Golden Eagles right before the half.

Freshman Kenzie Brown scored the first goal of the second half on a feed from Costanza to pull the Golden Eagles to within one, 4-3. Rutgers then responded with three straight goals to put the game out of reach.

Leading scorer Katrina Martinelli led the Scarlet Knights with a pair of goals as did Annie McGinley who also added an assist.

Brown led the Golden Eagles with two goals to move her into a tie with teammate Haley Baas with 17 goals on the year.

Rutgers held a 27-12 advantage in shots for the game, as well as a 24-17 edge in ground balls and a 10-4 lead in draw controls.

The Golden Eagles have Easter weekend off from competition before they return to action Friday, April 5 at Cincinnati.
