MILWAUKEE - Led by a four-goal effort from Charlotte McGuire and four others with hat tricks, Marquette defeated Villanova, 20-6, Saturday afternoon at the Valley Fields Dome.

The prolific offensive attack was enough to tie a program record with 20 goals, previously set back on Feb. 28, in a 20-7 victory over Kennesaw State. In her first start of the season, McGuire set a career-high with her four scores. Meanwhile, Julianna Shearer, Grace Gabriel, Amanda Bochniak and Allison Lane each recorded hat tricks on the afternoon.

Shearer became the fourth Golden Eagle to register 100 career points when she assisted Claire Costanza for her second point of the game. She would finish with four on the day to bring her career total to 102 points.

Marquette opened the game with a barrage of goals, rattling off nine consecutive to start the first half. McGuire opened the scoring with two straight tallies, beginning with a free position goal at the 25:46 mark.

Allison Lane was the first Golden Eagle to record a hat trick in the game, netting all three goals in the first half. Marquette was also aided by a stout defensive effort in goal by Jules Horning, who held Villanova scoreless for the first 25:35 of the game, recording four saves during that stretch and finishing the game with seven total stops.

The second half opened with a scoring frenzy with three goals coming in the first 3:32 of the half. McGuire once again opened scoring in the half, netting an unassisted tally.

Bochinak also played a helping hand in the contest, recording three assists to go along with her three goals. Devyn Antolini was able to score a late goal for MU - her first of the season.

Villanova was led on the offensive end by Kim McDonough, who finished with three goals.

Marquette will remain home, taking on No. 3 Florida on Wednesday, April 5 at 12 p.m. Central time at the Valley Fields Dome.
