INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team set the program record for wins and improved to 4-0 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 19-3 win over Butler on the road on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles (8-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) remain tied for first in the BIG EAST with No. 7 Florida after capturing their fourth-straight victory against the Bulldogs (1-11, 0-4 BIG EAST), who are in their second year as a program.

Grace Gabriel, the reigning BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, led seven MU scorers with a game-high six goals on nine shots to bring her season total to a league-leading 49 goals. It was her 10th hat trick and third double hat trick of the season. She finished the day with six groundballs, five caused turnovers and four draw controls as well.

Allison Lane scored four times, while Charlotte McGuire added three scores to reach the 30-goal milestone for the season. Logan Dobratz chipped in two scores, while Cate Soccodato added four assists to take over the team-lead with 28 helpers on the season.

It was another impressive day in net for the reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Julianna Horning, who made seven saves and surrendered just three goals in over 40 minutes of action. Sophia Leva came on in relief and made one save in 20 minutes of scoreless action.

Gabriel scored her first of the day just 1:15 into the contest and the Golden Eagles never looked back. Five different goal scorers gave Marquette a 5-0 lead to start the game before Butler mounted a three-goal rally, forcing MU to take a timeout. It proved to be an effective one as the Golden Eagles scored the final seven goals of the half en route to 14 unanswered to end the game.

MU leads the BIG EAST in scoring and has outscored its league opponents, 70-34, this season, including 35-7 in their previous two wins.

the Golden Eagles now return home to face Vanderbilt (8-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, April 8. First draw inside the Valley Dome is set for 12 p.m. Central time.
