PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-6 decision at Rutgers on Friday evening at RU Turf Field in a game which featured eight yellow cards.

Sophomore midfielders Kenzie Brown and Hayley Baas each notched a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles (5-7, 1-2 BIG EAST), while Amanda Bochniak and Katie Bathon added the other MU markers.

Redshirt sophomore Kristin Kocher scored four goals for the Scarlet Knights (7-6, 1-2 BIG EAST), which also received two goals apiece from Lauren Sbrilli and Megan Clements.

Marquette was able to corral 14 of 20 draw controls on the evening, while Rutgers held slim 19-18 and 11-9 advantages in shots and ground balls, respectively.

Kocher put the Scarlet Knights on the scoreboard first with 27:12 left in the opening stanza but the Golden Eagles were able to keep the game within a goal midway through the first.

Bochniak and Brown scored to put Marquette down just 3-2 with 12:56 remaining in the first half, but Rutgers tallied three of the final four goals to take a 6-3 edge into the break.

The Scarlet Knights posted the first four tallies of the second half to take full control of the contest and MU did not break back onto the scoreboard until a Brown marker with 15:30 remaining.

In 2013, the Golden Eagles fell 9-4 to Rutgers at Valley Fields on March 24.

Marquette returns to action on Sunday, April 13 against Connecticut at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
