Marquette Falls to Villanova 10-9 at Hart Park

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team dropped its second one-goal game in its last three BIG EAST Conference contests with a 10-9 defeat at the hands of Villanova on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park.
The Golden Eagles (5-10, 1-5 BIG EAST), who were playing their first-ever game at Hart Park, scored five unanswered goals to end the game but could not overcome a 10-4 deficit with just over 26 minutes remaining in the second half.
Freshman attack Amanda Bochniak scored a hat trick for Marquette on four shots and added an assist, while sophomore Claire Costanza posted a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Villanova-transfer Nicole Gleason also scored two goals against her former team.
Chelsey Henderson led Villanova (8-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) with three goals and an assist, while Meghan Breen posted two goals.
The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the game and led 3-1 before Costanza scored just over two minutes apart a third of the way through the opening frame to knot the game at 3-3.
Bochniak scored to tie the game again at 4-4 with 8:27 left in the first half before the Wildcats opened up a 10-4 lead towards the beginning of the second half. Included in that 6-0 VU run was a Jessica Mucci goal, which was set up by Breen, with just two seconds left in the first half.
Marquette corralled 11 of 21 draw controls in the game and out-shot Villanova 19-16, including a 10-5 differential in the second half of play.
MU also fell by one goal, 11-10, at UConn on Saturday, April 13 in Storrs, Conn.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 24 against the University of Louisville at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.
