LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sarah Priem made 10 second-half saves but the Marquette University women’s lacrosse team fell 12-5 at No. 18 Louisville on Thursday afternoon at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.

The Golden Eagles (5-11, 1-6 BIG EAST) trailed 8-0 after the first 30 minutes of action after being out-shot 18-1 during that timeframe. They responded with the first four goals of the second half but could not overcome their first period deficit, eventually allowing four of the final five goals to close out the contest.

Marquette sophomore Emma Salter made her first career start in net after a solid showing on Saturday against Villanova and made four saves. Priem’s solid play between the pipes allowed MU to outscore its counterparts 5-4 over the final 30 minutes.

Sophomore Claire Costanza posted a goal and pair of assists on the day to retake the team lead in points with 42 on the season, a new program single-season record, topping her 40 points as a freshman in 2013. Hayley Baas also added a goal and an assist, while Nicole Gleason, Amanda Bochniak and Devyn Antolini scored MU’s other markers.

Faye Brust scored a pair of goals in each half for the Cardinals (12-5), who concluded the regular season a perfect 7-0 in their final year in the BIG EAST Conference. U of L has earned the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST tournament, which begins Thursday, May 1 in Washington, D.C.

Louisville controlled play early and often off the draw, grabbing 17 on the day, compared just two (one per half) for the Golden Eagles. The ground ball battle was a bit closer as Louisville corralled 18 to MU’s 13.

The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee and will host USC on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day at Valley Fields. Meredith Donaldson and Jennifer Zandlo will be honored and the game will feature an MU sunglasses and Croakies giveaway for the first 400 students. All students will also have a chance to win a $100 MU Spirit Shop gift card.
