MILWAUKEE – Marquette University women’s lacrosse player Elizabeth Goslee competed with the U.S. Women’s National Team Jan. 17-18 in Naples, Florida, at the 10th annual Champions Challenge. The team swept both the 2014 NCAA champion University of Maryland (20-6, 15-9), and NCAA runner-up Syracuse University (16-7, 20-6) in two days of doubleheaders.

“This past weekend with the U.S. team was another opportunity I had to play with the best and learn so much,” Goslee said. “The pace of play is so fast and quick. I gained so much experience from another weekend playing at that pace.”

The Golden Eagle defender played alongside 38 athletes who are training for a potential spot on the national team that will compete at the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse Women’s World Cup in Surrey, England.

Goslee was chosen to attend national team tryouts that were held at Georgetown University last June. From there, the Cincinnati native was named to the 39-player training roster that met over the course of the fall and competed in Florida this past weekend.

The Champions Challenge event concludes the season for Goslee and the 2014-15 U.S. National Team. The next meeting of players will be at another round of tryouts for the 2015-16 U.S. National Team.

The MU junior was recently named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Honorable Mention, a first in MU women’s lacrosse history. During her sophomore season, the defender earned All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades and was named the team’s co-MVP. Goslee completed the 2014 season second on the team in caused turnovers (21) and third on the team with ground balls (24).

“I am focused on Marquette lacrosse this spring and getting to the BIG EAST Championship,” Goslee said. “I hope to use everything I have learned this past year being on the U.S. team to help build Marquette lacrosse into a championship squad.”

She was named a captain for the 2015 campaign that will begin for the Golden Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 8 in Houston, Texas against Johns Hopkins.
