Jan. 27, 2015
NEW YORK – Marquette University women’s lacrosse junior defender Elizabeth Goslee was named one of three Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Players of the Year and the Golden Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, the BIG EAST announced Tuesday.
“I'm so proud of “Biz” because this honor is well deserved, like all her others, and earned by her hard work and dedication,” head coach Meredith Black said. “She continues to raise her level of play and is willing to do whatever it takes to be at her best.”
Goslee joins Florida’s Caroline Fitzgerald and Georgetown’s Adrianne Devine in receiving preseason defensive players of the year honors.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was one of ten players to garner a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad. Goslee also became the first Marquette women’s lacrosse player selected to an All-BIG EAST preseason team.
BIG EAST newcomer Florida was unanimously picked to finish first in the preseason poll and 2014 BIG EAST runner-up Georgetown was picked second. Third-place Connecticut received the final first place vote.
Following her sophomore season in 2014, Goslee was named an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection after starting all 17 games, while picking up a team high 24 ground balls and causing 21 turnovers. She spent the past year training with the U.S. National Women’s Lacrosse Team and was selected as one of 38 players to make the team, which recently competed in the Champions Challenge against Maryland and Syracuse.
The Golden Eagles will open their 2015 campaign on the road in Houston, Texas against Johns Hopkins on Sunday, Feb. 8 as part of the University of Houston’s Women Empowered initiative.
