Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Attacker Grace Gabriel is off to a solid start to her collegiate career and after scoring a goal on Friday, was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday along with the full list of its first weekly award winners of the season.

Gabriel, a Lancaster, N.Y. native, has scored a goal and added a pair of draws in back-to-back games against nationally-ranked opponents to begin her Marquette career. She scored the game’s first goal and totaled four shots against No. 17/17 Johns Hopkins on Friday, Feb. 12 - a game that MU led by as many as three goals before falling by a narrow margin of 11-8.

Prior to that, she had a goal on two shots in her collegiate debut on Feb. 6, in a loss to then-No. 15/16 Louisville on the road.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action this weekend as they take on the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Sunday, Feb. 21. First draw is set for 12 p.m. Central time.
